19th Japan Media Arts Festival

The entry period for submission of works to the 19th Japan Media Arts Festival ended on Sep 9, 2015. As in previous years, the festival attracted huge interest from around the globe. A 15% increase in the number of entries over last year resulted in a total of 4,417 works being submitted, the highest number in the Japan Media Arts Festival’s 19 year history.Record-breaking numbers of entries were received in both Animation and Manga divisions, and the total of 2,216 works entered from Japan was the highest number ever submitted to the festival (a 21% increase over last year’s 2,035).The festival received entries from 87 countries and regions from around the world, the highest number in the festival’s history. The Japan Media Arts Festival is clearly evolving into an international festival, which exemplifies the vast range of contemporary forms of expression and diversity in Media Arts today. The festival’s jury, five members for each division,will soon begin screening the entries. Recognizing significant works of high artistry and creativity, each division will be awarded one Grand Prize, four Excellence Awards and three New Face Awards. The Award-winning Works will be announced on Friday, November 27, 2015, along with the Special Achievement
Awards and Jury Selections.

*The National Art Center, Tokyo will be closed on February 9, 2015.Further venues will be announced on the JMAF official website upon decision.
