animago AWARD: Extended Submission Deadline until 19 July – Participate now! animago JURY: The 2016 Expert Jurors

Munich, 28 June 2016. animago AWARD: Extended Submission Deadline for this year’s animago AWARD has been extended. Creatives from all over the world now have until 19th July to send in their 3D ANIMATION & STILL, VISUAL EFFECTS and VISUALISATION projects to www.animago.com for consideration at the international competition. Participation is free of charge. The animago AWARD gala presentation, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, will take place during the animago AWARD & CONFERENCE (27/28 October 2016) for the first time in Munich’s Gasteig Cultural and Event Centre. A jury of prominent experts drawn from the animation and VFX industry will make all the tough decisions with regard to the nominations and prize winners.

The animago will be awarded in twelve categories: Best Visual Effects, Best Short Film, Best Character, Best Game Cinematic, Best Motion Design, Best Advertising Production, Best Visualization, Best Young Production (with € 3,000 prize money from DIGITAL PRODUCTION), Best Still (public voting), Jury’s Prize, Architecture Prize presented by DETAIL, Anniversary Prize (public voting).

Here is the list of the jurors for animago AWARD 2016

Gunter Hagedorn, Jury Chairman: GĂŒnter is a Hamburg-based graphic designer and freelance editor who has been an integral part of organizing and implementing the animago AWARD since its inception in 1997.

Pablo Bach, Founder and Managing Director LIGA 01, Hamburg: The field of digital production has always been his thing. As Head of Graphics / Animation / VFX at ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, he was responsible for the design and visual effects of many productions before going on to found LIGA 01 COMPUTER FILM GmbH in 2001. He is an active member of the Art Directors Club and holds lectures and workshops at various universities.

Maggy Fischer, Head of Post-Production NEVEREST, Munich: Maggy is an industry giant with over 20 years of experience in post-production, among others as co-founder of Second Unit Services, Stereolize and Ventuz. Today she is head of post-production at NEVEREST, a full-service agency that offers strategy, design and production of digital content.

Mirja Furst, Editor DIGITAL PRODUCTION: Mirja got her start as part of an internship at a post-production studio and today she is responsible for animago online and print editing at DIGITAL PRODUCTION magazine, which also happens to be the organizer behind the animago.

Sinje Gebauer, Freelance VFX & CG Producer: Sinje is responsible for many renowned national and international projects, including “The Little Ghost”, “Captain America 2”, the “Vampire Sisters” series and “Heidi”. She also teaches VFX Producing at the HFF Munich.

Elisa Krenz, Freelance Graphics & Motion Designer: Elisa is a multimedia virtual reality designer and worked at several TV broadcast companies, including Fox and Sky, as well as at studios such as Aixsponza, Perfect Accident and Gate11. Her repertoire includes illustration, graphic design, motion graphics, 3D animation, brand identity and corporate design.

Michael C. MĂŒller, Manager Creation Technologies adidas AG, Herzogenaurach:Michael C. MĂŒller has been responsible for the quality of virtual clothing simulation in the fields of design, marketing and sales at adidas since 2011. He trained as an advertising photographer and media designer. After completing his studies in design, he started his creative career in the automobile industry, making real-time visualisations at Bertrandt AG for many clients, including Audi.

Rolf Mutze, Co-Founder and Managing Director LAVAlabs moving images, Dusseldorf: Rolf MĂŒtze studied visual communication at MĂŒnster University of Applied Sciences as well as computer arts at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After several stops in Germany, MĂŒtze worked as Lighting Technical Director on Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” at Weta Digital in New Zealand in 2012 before co-founding LAVAlabs together with Michael Brink.

Juri Stanossek, VFX Supervisor Mackevision Medien Design, Stuttgart: Juri Stanossek has worked on the visual effects for productions such as “The Cut” (2014) and “The Widow Maker” (2015). Many of the advertising spots he worked on went on to receive multiple awards. During his time at Pixomondo, he received, among others, an Emmy Award for the second season of “Game of Thrones” (2012). His VFX team also created several sequences for the Oscar Award-winning “Hugo Cabret” (2012).

Fuat Yuksel, FX Artist Aixsponza, Munich: Fuat has been creating at Aixsponza physical phenomena, such as particle systems, fluids, dynamics, simulations and explosions since 2008. His reputation as an expert in the field led Trixter Film to hire him to work on Roland Emmerich‘s “Independence Day: Resurgence” after which he had a six-month “work break” at Aixsponza.

Matthias Zentner, Founder and Managing Director Velvet Mediendesign, Munich:Matthias studied industrial engineering and discovered his passion for broadcast design, directing and post-production in 1994. One year later, he founded his own company, which soon went on to become one of the top national and international addresses for the realisation of high-end film productions, post-productions and TV design. 

For the first time, the animago will join with the DETAIL magazine to hand out the “Special Architectural Award presented by DETAIL”. For this purpose, the animago jury will be enhanced by the following architecture experts

Pedro Ferreira, Architect, Editor, Graphic and Concept Designer: Pedro Ferreira is founder of Apparat-c in Seoul and Atelier Para in Portugal and he is teaching architecture at Munich University of Applied Sciences in collaboration with the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto, FAUP Porto Portugal and Rotterdam Academy of Architecture and Urban Design.  At Allmann Sattler Wappner Architekten Pedro Ferreira has gained experience for more than 10 years in the competition department and participated in different stages of project design and he was awarded and/or short-listed on several national and international competitions.

Frank Kaltenbach, Architect and Editor DETAIL magazine, Munich: Frank Kaltenbach studied architecture in Stuttgart and Phoenix, Arizona and has been the editor of the international architectural magazine DETAIL since 1998. As part of his broad spectrum of tasks over the past several years, he has dealt regularly with everything from computer-based design and architecture visualization to VR and AR.

Philipp Schaerer, Architect and Image Designer, Switzerland: Specialising in the field of digital image processing, Philipp works at the intersection between architecture, photography and graphics. His work has been published and exhibited repeatedly, and several of his pieces are represented in private and public collections – among others, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, at the Canadian Center for Architecture in Montreal and at the Photo Museum in Winterthur. Philipp Schaerer lives and works in ZĂŒrich and Steffisburg/CH. 

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the animago AWARD, the gala award ceremony will take place on the evening of Thursday, 27 October 2016 at Munich’s GASTEIG Centre.
